Experience:
Grahame Smith has 30 yrs of counselling experience in the community, the workplace and Christian denominations including individual and group based counselling. He spent 15 yrs working for the University of Western Sydney and in the community, training and equipping people to live better lives. He has also worked in Government for 29 yrs as a senior manager and grievance counsellor. As an A.C.A Recognised Professional Counsellor (Clinical- Level 4 member) and as a trained and Registered Counselling Supervisor (with A.C.A College of Supervisors), he provides clinical supervision services to professional counsellors from a range of backgrounds. These backgrounds include Religious Counsellors/Pastors, Behavioural Counsellors and those who see themselves as eclectic in nature. Grahame is also a registered Counsellor with Work Cover N.S.W as an accredited provider of Counselling Services to injured workers. He has also provided Clinical Supervision Services to mental health staff working for the Department of Corrective Services N.S.W and provides counselling services to Carers Australia helping people who care for disabled friends and family.He has also been contracted to provide workplace counselling to a wide range of employers along with providing Chaplaincy services. He also has a provider number for Medibank Private Health Insurance holders with top cover.
Importantly, I have hundreds of hours of face to face work either in person or online by video link with clients using EMIT (including EMDR), as a means of assisting them to achieve their counselling goals, especially in the areas of trauma, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. Client groups include current reservist soldiers, first responders, retired serviceman, and trauma victims from the community and traumatised employees from heavy industry. I am also a EMIT/EMDR supervisor and trainer providing training and supervision services for existing mental health practitioners. This in association with other qualified EMIT/EMDR practitioner’s. Such courses and workshop are recognised by the Australian Counselling Association.
